More about June Hootman
I love to explore and experiment with different art mediums. In addition to watercolor
and acrylic paintings, I’ve created mixed media pieces to achieve unique textures
and layering techniques. Artwork that protrudes or extends from the
surface of the painting in some fashion is also fascinating endeavor for me.
The natural world provides a lot of inspiration and material for me to work with.
I’ve painted rocks creating intricate themed tapestries. Some small stones have
been painted with just a simple whimsical image or basic design. Dried gourds are
another of Nature’s gifts that I transform into artworks with the help of my
wood burning tools and acrylic paints. I’ve used large dried seed pods and the
spines of palm frond branches to create works of art on. I’ve even painted a real
turtle shell!
The compositions for many of my paintings intend a specific connection with the
viewer. I may try to achieve this connection through humor, or a poignant
experience from childhood, or some aspect of the human condition that evokes a
specific emotional response. My art is always a reflection of experiences that have
woven strong patterns into the fabric of my life.
My abstract compositions reflect more of the mood I am in when I’m working on
them. Sometimes a work that has peaceful or reflective vibe to it, gets another
layer or two added later which brings more energy or restlessness to it. These
works are very likely to include an aspect of flow or movement in them as well.
